Tharti village in Tehri district, Uttarakhand, is slowly sinking, and its residents have been living in fear for the past 10 years. Cracked walls, collapsing courtyards, and forced migration during monsoons have become a harsh reality for this entirely Dalit samaj populated village. Despite repeated appeals, rehabilitation remains stuck in files. Some families were allotted land, but objections from upper-caste groups stalled the process.
The root cause is believed to be a poorly planned road construction that weakened the village’s foundation. Most residents are daily wage laborers with no land or financial resources to rebuild their homes elsewhere.
Is this delay just administrative negligence, or is caste bias playing a role? With over 400 disaster-affected villages in Uttarakhand, the question remains are some lives considered less important? Watch this ground report and share your thoughts. @Thirdpolelive
