Researchers detected high levels of hazardous volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including benzene—a known cancer-causing chemical. The findings suggest that long-term exposure could pose significant health risks.
The study links these pollutants to increasing tourism, diesel vehicle emissions, hotel activities, construction materials, and forest fires. Surprisingly, most of the pollution appears to be generated locally and peaks during the tourist season.
