The Pilangad-I Hydro Project in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, is a small-scale hydroelectric project that generates electricity without the need for a large dam. It operates on the “run-of-the-river” principle, where the river’s flow is not obstructed; instead, its energy is harnessed for power generation.
The project generates over 10 million units of electricity annually, meeting the energy needs of nearby villages. Notably, the project has not resulted in the submergence of homes or caused significant environmental damage.
