Step into the forgotten history of Milam, once the largest and wealthiest village in Uttarakhand’s Johar Valley. Nestled in the johar Valley, Milam was a thriving trade center between India and Tibet. Traders from this prosperous village would carry their goods to Tibetan markets, returning with salt, yak\u2019s ghee, and other local treasures. In fact, Milam\u2019s women were called “Swarnagotri” due to the wealth and gold that flowed through the village. But Milam’s legacy isn\u2019t just about trade. The village is also the birthplace of the legendary explorer Pandit Nain Singh Rawat, who mapped Tibet for the first time.Sadly, after India\u2019s independence and the Indo-China war of 1962, the trade routes closed, and Milam\u2019s economic lifeline was severed. This marked the beginning of mass migration from the village. Join us as we rediscover Milam’s golden days through the memories of G.S Pangti, born in 1941 in this historic village.
