Traders from this prosperous village would carry their goods to Tibetan markets, returning with salt, yak’s ghee, and other local treasures. In fact, Milam’s women were called “Swarnagotri” due to the wealth and gold that flowed through the village. But Milam’s legacy isn’t just about trade. The village is also the birthplace of the legendary explorer Pandit Nain Singh Rawat, who mapped Tibet for the first time.Sadly, after India’s independence and the Indo-China war of 1962, the trade routes closed, and Milam’s economic lifeline was severed.
