History of the Food Traditions of Uttarakhand
About ten thousand years ago, humans were introduced to grains. Nature gave them a rare gift, which they could cook to satiate their hunger. But the way humans treated this rare gift, i.e. grains and the food cooked from them, over time, has an interesting history in the social and cultural fabric along with many old-fashioned actions. Now take our own Uttarakhand, there were many castes here, who were so filled with caste superiority that, forget about the food cooked by others, they did not even eat food cooked by their wives. Some castes considered themselves so supreme that they never went on a pilgrimage to Badrinath, lest they had to accept the prasad cooked by Brahmins. There were many other castes in Uttarakhand, among whom such absurd practices existed, which may make one laugh today, but once upon a time these absurd traditions and beliefs were present in the society. Like all societies of the world, the ancient food tradition of Uttarakhand also has its own history. This history is full of such interesting information that it is not easy to believe them at once. The reason for this is the many customs and complexities present in the food tradition here. The kind of conservative beliefs and complexities regarding food that existed in the ancient folk life of Uttarakhand, such complex beliefs will hardly be seen in any other society.
